Navy Suits & Wedding Rings

Navy Suits & Wedding Rings

Music & Lyrics by Drew Brody

boys wore their clothes too big
girls wore their hair too big
i wore my nose too big
i’ve seen the pictures – i know
we made mountains out of molehills
we pulled drama from the air
we imitated grownup thoughts and cares

but we weren’t like other kids around us
we were different
like we came together cause we knew something more
and if not everything was perfect or went just like it should
well we stuck together and stood with each other
and laughed as hard as we could

and the funny thing is i don’t remember growing up
but suddenly we’ve got houses and dogs and permanent things
we’ve got bills to pay (and the stress that brings)
we wear ties to work, we wear wedding rings
we may look the way our parents did
still when i’m with my lifelong friends
we’ll always just be kids

we couldn’t wait to drive
we didn’t wait to drink
and, yes, we were those kids who couldn’t wait to vote
and now we hate to drive, we rarely drink
we vote – but not for winners
you gotta wonder what were we hurrying for?

well here’s to us!
here’s to happiness, love, and seizing the day
here’s to helping each other find our way
and to our children playing together one day
we live in central maine
we live in michigan
we live in cities scattered far and wide
but oh well
distance does not dilute a friendship
our history keeps us close
and though i miss my friends
i take ’em with me
everywhere i go

and the funny thing is i don’t remember growing up
but suddenly we’ve got houses and dogs and permanent things
we’ve got bills to pay (and the stress that brings)
we wear navy suits, we wear wedding rings
we may act the way our parents did
still when i’m with my lifelong friends
we’ll always just be kids
always
