THE BASKETHOUSE is a weekly acoustic series to connect artists and music lovers across generations and give voice to a community that believes music can empower, transform, inform, and serve as a catalyst for change. We seek to showcase artists who have “something to say,” who can tell a story, and who can help us appreciate great songs.

Every Wednesday this summer, some of the best performers in New York City will take the stage at the world-famous Bitter End in Greenwich Village for a night dedicated to acoustic folk music (broadly defined, classic and contemporary). 3 performers each evening will perform two short sets of a mixture of covers and originals. The purpose of the series is to generate an interest in New York City’s great folk music tradition, as well as to showcase new artists working in and expanding the genre.

We will retell old stories and tell new stories, relearn old lessons and learn new lessons, re-hear songs that have made people think, made people laugh, or inspired people to act, and hear new songs that inspire thought, laughter, and action. As songwriters, we need a venue where it’s okay to be wordy/funny/angry/specific/intelligent/unironic/honest/detailed/reverent/irreverent/ uncommercial/complex, and audience members deserve the same.

The series is absolutely FREE, although there will be the opportunity to put change in the basket for the musicians. Hence: Baskethouse.
